2-Day Trekking Experience in the Highlands of Lalibela

Spend your first trekking day hiking from Lalibela up to the highland village of Wedebye at 3,600m. The trail offers sweeping mountain views from the moment you leave town, passing traditional farms and small communities where you can observe daily rural life. You will stop at Mount Hudad for a snack break and a chance to see the endemic Gelada baboons. After lunch at Wedebye, visit a nearby village or school to meet local residents and learn about their culture, farming, and traditions. In the evening, enjoy a warm welcome around the fire, including the community's traditional foot-washing ceremony, followed by dinner and lively music and dance performed by village youth.

Begin the morning with a scenic hike from Wedebye to Chebertay Peak, one of the highest viewpoints in the area at 3,900m. From the summit, enjoy wide panoramic views over the Sekota mountains, the surrounding valleys, and Mount Abune Yousef. After spending time at the peak, return to Wedebye for lunch. In the afternoon, trek back toward Lalibela, descending through dramatic landscapes and stopping again at Mount Hudad to observe the Gelada baboons. The trek concludes on arrival in Lalibela, where you will be dropped off at the hotel of your choice.
