4-Day Ancient Axum & Tigray Churches Journey

After breakfast, drive into the spectacular Gheralta Mountains to begin the hike to Abune Yemata Guh, Ethiopia's most iconic rock-hewn church. The adventure includes hiking, rock scrambling, and a thrilling cliff-side climb before reaching the church, renowned for its perfectly preserved medieval frescoes, ancient architecture, and breathtaking panoramic views. Along the way, visit Wukro Cherkos, a remarkable 13th-century rock-hewn church carved directly into a massive sandstone formation. Explore its beautifully carved interior, ancient pillars, and impressive craftsmanship while learning about its historical and religious importance within the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Depending on your flight schedule, there may be time to explore parts of the city before transferring to Mekelle Airport to Addis Ababa.
