From the wetlands and savannahs of Akagera National Park to the ancient rainforest of Nyungwe National Park, discover an incredible variety of bird species and habitats. Rwanda is home to more than 700 recorded bird species, including numerous Albertine Rift endemics. Enjoy guided birdwatching walks, game drives, and forest exploration while searching for spectacular species such as the Shoebill, Papyrus Gonolek, Red-faced Barbet, Rwenzori Turaco, Rwenzori Batis, and Grey-crowned Crane. Nyungwe alone offers more than 300 recorded species, making it a particularly rewarding destination for bird enthusiasts.

Day 1 Arrival and Pick-up from the Airport

You will be picked up from Kigali International Airport in Rwanda by our representative and will then be transferred to your hotel. You will be given instructions about the trip. Depending on your arrival time, you may go on a city tour of Kigali to learn about the history and culture of this country.
Day 2 Bird Watching in Nyabarongo and Nyarutarama

After breakfast, you will be picked up by our tour guide and transferred to Nyabarongo for bird-watching. We will go on a city tour to the Genocide Memorial centre and the King's palace before having another bird-watching activity in the afternoon at Nyarutarama artificial lake.
Day 3 Transfer to Akagera National Park

You will be transferred to Akagera National Park after breakfast. On arrival, you will drive through a mixture of acacia and papyrus trees. You will have a chance to spot various birds, including the red-faced barbet, Bennett's woodpecker, papyrus gonolek, white-headed, black and familiar chat, Carruther's and Tabora cisticola, white-winged and broad-tailed warbler and the Miombo wren-warbler.
Day 4 Game Drive in the Akagera National Park and Back to Kigali

You will have another game drive in the morning after breakfast through the savannah landscape. You will see various wild animals like leopards, elephants, buffaloes and giraffes. Other animals include zebras and various types of antelope. Afterward, you will depart for Kigali.
Day 5 Bird watching in Bugesera and Departure

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Bugesera Valley for bird watching and you will also visit the genocide memorial site of Ntarama and Nyamata. You will then return to Kigali and enjoy lunch.
