Day by Day

Day 1 Arusha-Machame Gate-Machame Hut Camp
Morning 🏨Budget camping On Mt Kilimanjaro 🍽Lunch & dinner (Breakfast not included) Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
The adventure kicks off with a brief drive to the Machame trailhead (elevation 5,380 feet), where you'll check in with park rangers before beginning the ascent. The trail leads you through the enchanting montane forests, where you’ll be surrounded by towering trees draped in moss and a variety of birdlife. The first day’s hike takes you deep into this lush jungle, steadily gaining elevation until you reach Machame Hut Camp for your overnight stay. Hiking Duration: 5-7 hours Overnight Elevation: 9,350 feet.
Day 2 Machame Hut Camp-Shira Plateau
Morning 🏨Budget camping On Mt Kilimanjaro 🍽All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
On the second day, you’ll continue your climb through the final stretch of the forest. As you ascend, the landscape changes dramatically, transitioning from dense woodlands to open moorlands filled with unique alpine vegetation. The views begin to open up, providing breathtaking sights of Kibo Peak, Kilimanjaro's highest point. The day is relatively moderate in terms of hiking difficulty, allowing you to fully appreciate the stunning scenery. Hiking Duration: 4-6 hours Overnight Elevation: 12,500 feet.
Day 3 Shira Plateau-Barranco Camp
Morning 🏨Budget camping On Mt Kilimanjaro 🍽All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
The third day is a longer and more challenging hike, but also crucial for acclimatization. The trail ascends toward Lava Tower (15,190 feet), a significant landmark where you'll stop for lunch. The hike to this point helps your body adjust to the higher altitudes. Afterward, you’ll descend into the Barranco Valley, following the "climb high, sleep low" principle that helps prevent altitude sickness. For those feeling adventurous, if conditions allow, a scramble up Lava Tower can be a rewarding side trip. As you descend, you’ll notice the scenery shift once again, passing through a range of ecological zones. Hiking Duration: 6-8 hours Overnight Elevation: 13,044 feet.
Day 4 Barranco Camp-Karanga Camp
Morning 🏨Budget camping On Mt Kilimanjaro 🍽All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
On the fourth day, you will continue acclimatizing as you prepare for the upcoming summit push. The day begins with a challenging climb up the iconic Barranco Wall, a steep rock face that requires a bit of scrambling but rewards you with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. After conquering the Barranco Wall, the trail becomes a series of ridges and valleys, offering a mix of ascents and descents. As you approach Karanga Camp, the terrain becomes more barren, with fewer plants but expansive views of the mountain’s upper slopes. Depending on the group's condition, there may be time in the afternoon for a short acclimatization hike to help your body further adjust to the altitude.
Day 5 Karanga-Barafu Camp
Morning 🏨Budget camping On Mt Kilimanjaro 🍽All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
On day five, you will make your way to Barafu Camp, your final stop before the summit attempt. The route is shorter but still physically demanding, as you continue trekking through a rugged, rocky landscape. You’ll pass over more ridges and valleys, feeling the altitude more as the air thins. Barafu, meaning "ice" in Swahili, reflects the cold, harsh conditions you’ll experience at this elevation. Once you arrive at camp, you'll have an early dinner and attempt to rest for a few hours. The night is short, as you'll wake around 11:00 PM to prepare for the summit point. Hiking Duration: 3-4 hours Overnight Elevation: 15,331 feet.
Day 6 Summit-Mweka Camp
Morning 🏨Budget camping On Mt Kilimanjaro 🍽All meals included Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Summit day begins around midnight. Guided by headlamps, you’ll start the slow, steady climb up the steep and rocky path towards Stella Point. The early hours of the ascent are particularly challenging due to the altitude, the cold, and the darkness. Patience and perseverance are key as you make your way up. After reaching Stella Point at dawn, you’ll continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19,341 feet. Once you’ve celebrated your achievement and taken photos at the summit, you’ll begin the long descent to Mweka Camp, passing through several ecological zones as you descend. The descent can be tough on the knees, but the sense of accomplishment carries you through. Hiking Duration: 6-7 hours to the summit, followed by 6-9 hours of descent Summit Elevation: 19,341 feet Overnight Elevation: 10,500 feet.
Day 7 Mweka Gate-Arusha Town
Morning 🏨No accommodation (End of tour) 🍽Breakfast & lunch (Dinner not included) Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
The final day involves a descent through the lush rainforest as you make your way to Mweka Gate (elevation 5,000 feet). The trail is often wet and muddy, but the drop in altitude brings a welcome return to warmer temperatures and denser vegetation. Upon reaching the gate, you’ll stop for lunch and take a moment to thank and say goodbye to the mountain crew that supported your journey. Afterward, you’ll be driven back to Arusha for a hot shower and a well-deserved celebratory dinner to mark the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure. Hiking Duration: 3-5 hours.
