After breakfast, depart for Marangu Gate (1,970 m) where you’ll register and meet your guide. Begin hiking through lush rainforest, passing under giant ferns and fig trees. The 8 km trail gently climbs for about 3 hours to Mandara Hut (2,720 m). Along the way, spot blue monkeys and hear the songs of tropical birds. After lunch at Mandara Hut, take a short side trip to Maundi Crater for sweeping views of Kenya’s borderlands. Descend the same trail through the forest canopy, returning to the gate by late afternoon, and drive back to your hotel.
