Southern Tanzania Safari: Selous, Mikumi, Ruaha & Serengeti Adventure

Arrive at Selous Game Reserve and settle into your safari lodge. Spend the afternoon embarking on your first game drive through this vast and diverse ecosystem, home to lions, elephants, and numerous bird species. Return to the lodge for dinner and an evening at leisure.

Explore the Selous Game Reserve further with morning and afternoon game drives where sightings of the Big Five, wild dogs, and giant Nile crocodiles are common. Between drives, enjoy a relaxing boat safari on the Rufiji River, offering spectacular views of hippos, crocodiles, and a rich variety of birdlife. This combination of boat and land safaris provides a unique perspective on the reserve’s abundant wildlife and scenic beauty.

After breakfast, transfer to Mikumi National Park, a reserve known for its accessible wildlife and diverse landscapes. Spend the day on game drives, traversing open savannahs and cashew woodlands. Keep an eye out for large herds of elephants, buffalo, and giraffes, as well as elusive predators such as lions and cheetahs. The park's varied ecosystems support an excellent range of bird species, enhancing your wildlife viewing experience.

Embark on an early morning game drive in Mikumi to enjoy the cool hours when wildlife is most active. Later, transfer to Ruaha National Park, the largest national park in Tanzania celebrated for its rugged wilderness and dense concentrations of elephants. Upon arrival, relax at your lodge before an evening game drive to witness predators like lions and leopards in their natural habitat against the backdrop of the Ruaha River.

Spend a full day exploring Ruaha’s expansive terrain with morning and afternoon game drives. The park is renowned for its large elephant populations also complemented by sightings of kudu, impala, and a wide array of birdlife. Explore riverine forests and baobab-lined landscapes while searching for the elusive wildlife that thrives here. Return to the lodge for relaxation and dinner amidst stunning natural surroundings.

After breakfast, you will start your journey to Nyerere National Park. The journey is the most amazing and truly wild and untouched area of Tanzania. The drive will take you along the Uluguru Mountains across rivers and pass through small local villages and farms. The drive is tiring but possibly the most rewarding adventure on the southern circuit. You'll arrive in Nyerere National Park for an afternoon boat safari from 4:00 pm until sunset. The boat safari brings you into close contact with hippos, crocodiles, and fantastic bird life. Crocodiles glide into the water as your boat approaches and hippos appear in frightening proximity, grunting and blowing steam.

You'll wake up for an early breakfast then you will go out for a game drive. Today you will have a full-day game drive In Selous Game Reserve exploration of the reserve by 4WD vehicle. This will permit you to have good photographic opportunities and the chance to explore different sections of this vast park. You will continue with the game drive until sunset.

You'll wake up early in the morning and have a cup of coffee or tea, then go out for a wilderness walking safari with the guidance of an armed ranger which will take two to two and a half hours. A walking safari will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wild. You will get the chance to touch nature and see the different foot prints and droppings of different wild animals and small creatures that you can’t see during the game drive. After the walking safari, you will go back to the camp/ lodge for breakfast then pack your stuff, and start driving back to Dar es Salaam with a lunch pack. You'll be dropped off at your hotel or airport for your next destination.
